It's got me thinking...

With Hurricane Ike about to make landfall and the influx of evacuees into North Texas and the constant news coverage it's got me thinking. When we lived in Alabama we went through two hurricanes that I remember but because of our location inland we had wind damage and loss of electricity but it was not an evacuation situation. As I watch these people evacuate their homes I feel for them so much. What would you take with you??? With the hurricanes we had back home I took all my pictures off the walls and wrapped them good in case we were to have water to get into the house somehow. My babies pictures mean a lot to me and if you have ever been in my house you know I have a shrine! So, that is for sure some things I would take with me. But other than that I really can't think of a lot of things I would take. I guess as long as I had my family and the few sentimental things we have then I would be OK. The rest can all be replaced but it would be a strange feeling to leave it all behind not knowing what would and would not be there when you got back. I think the thing that has touched me the most is seeing the babies from NICUs moved into hospitals here. Breaks my heart! I can not stop thinking about their families. Having had that experience, I can say it is not a good one. Your life is suddenly turned upside down and your baby is hanging on for life and you are waiting everyday for answers and tests and more answers and then to have them moved to another city hours away. Do they have money to get here? Do they have anywhere to stay? I just can't get them off my mind. I bet these families are some of the least concerned about what they are leaving behind though. Dear God, touch these lives. Provide for them. Protect them. We know YOU are in control!

That just breaks my heart too! I hope they have Jesus to lean on...I couldn't do it without the strength of the Lord!

When we lived in FL I gathered some pictures, and our most important papers in case we had to evacuate... other wise all I cared about was that noting happened to my family because I can't replace them like I can decorations and furniture.

I also put all our bank and basically internet info on a jump drive because I knew we would not be able to take our computer so I also put our digital picture on it so all of this would not be lost to water damage just in case.
It really is A LOT of work and pre-planning your family to evacuate! Money is always and issue, so I had talked to Jason about starting a "Hurricane Savings" for this time of year to buy supplies, gas, and hotel if need be.....but we ended up moving here.

P.s.....I LOVE YOUR NEW LOOK AND it's the BEST ONE YET!!! I am SOSOSO Jealous!!!

I have TWC on and it is amazing how the waves are looking and it is hours away.

Thanks-I LOVE IT TOO!

As you might imagine, I've had the TWC on for days, too. It looks worse than I've ever seen it - even the pics from our neck of the woods -GulfShores and Dauphin Island-to be so far from the landfall spot. The waves in Galveston are incredible! We have evacuees here and our church is helping to make breakfast for some of them Sunday morning. It feels like such a small thing in view of what they might be going home to. I'm like you, I cannot imagine having a baby in NICU and having to move them. I have been praying for all of them down there and hoping it will not be as bad as it looks to be!
BTW, I do love your new look, too! I agree with Rebecca, it's the best yet! I especially like the pics across the top-precious!

It is just looking worse and worse. My sister was telling me about what was going on in Gulf Shores. It is just so big! That is great that y'all are helping out the evacuees. You all are a very loving and giving church. I have not gotten anything together but I just got an e-mail from TXU about the possibility of power outages here. We'll see. My sister said they were having a hard time getting gas in AL. It is just a mess!

Thanks! I really like it!
